Bedroom Invaders

True story…I swear.
The house was all mine, the first time in my adult life that I had an extended period of solitude. My family were off having adventures and I was holding down the fort.

I relished the quiet and spent my evenings reading and enjoying my own company. Little did I know that I would have an experience that would shake my confidence and leave me apprehensive to sleep alone for weeks to come.

There was actually three events in the space of a week. The first two were disturbing but I quickly rationalized the occurrences and talked myself down.

The first time, I awoke in the dark hours of the night to sense someone, a shadowy presence, standing to the left of my bed by my window.

It was like someone was there but not. I could feel the dark energy and sensed intelligence. Once I fully focused my eyes on the apparition and it recognized I was aware of it’s presence, it vanished.

A similar terror happened a second time a few nights later. I awoke to the sense of someone in my bedroom. This time when I looked, the same shadowy figure was there but in a different part of my room. Again when it realized I was awake and aware of it’s presence, it vanished.

I have never spent so many nights alone before so it was easy for my imagination to get the better of me. My rational mind quickly came up with a plausible explanation for what had occurred. It was just a play of shadow from the street light filtering in through the edge of my very solid roller blind. My nervousness of being in the house alone, in the dark of night where nobody would hear me scream was playing on my subconscious fears. That had to be it. Get a grip and go back to sleep.

A couple of nights later a third incident happened. I had stayed up late reading, of all things, an urban fantasy about modern day vampires. I could not have been asleep more than a hour and was dreaming that a vampire was leaning over me in my bed about to do who knows what and in my mind I was thinking, this is a bit far fetched, dreaming of vampires…. really?

I was trying to wake up enough to change my dream when I realized, oh my God, oh my God, Oh My God! Someone is in my bed lying right beside me!

I could feel the considerable weigh of another body on my mattress and it was moving like it was rolling towards me. I was paralysed with shear terror. My heart was pounding in my ears.

The weight froze. I sensed that it realized I was awake. I’m sure my hearts loud drumming alerted it. Then slowly it rotated off my bed, stood for a few seconds staring at me and vanished.

I lay there unmoving letting my fear subside. Holy hell, did that really happen? Amazingly after my heart returned to a normal rhythm I fell back to sleep not waking again until morning.

Science has a name for this phenomenon. It’s called Sleep Paralysis and it occurs when the brain awakens from REM sleep but the body remains “asleep” (in paralysis). Some, have even experienced terrifying hallucinations, seeing and feeling dark entities like I did. It is not considered a health problem and can happened to anyone.

But what if it is something else? What if instead of an hallucination, I really experienced a paranormal visitor?

Robert Goerman of the Nonhuman Research Agency suggests a different explanation. He argues that we have actually been visited by nonhuman intruders or bedroom invaders.

My analytical mind tends to sway to the sleep paralysis explanation but I have had enough strange, unexplained experiences in my life that I am not going to discount Mr. Goerman’s position either. Below is a link to a more in depth explanation of sleep paralysis as well as a link to the Nonhuman Research Agency website. You decide for yourself.

Between Oct. 27 and Oct. 31, Robert Goerman is offering a free Kindle download of his eBook, “It’s Not sleep paralysis!, The Global Nightmare of Nonhuman Intruders” http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FAYT73W

Happy Halloween
