The 3 x 3 Project – Week 5

What is the 3 x 3 Project?

My online friend, Slade Roberson wrote a interesting post on his site, Shift Your Spirits entitled Change Your Life In 3 Months .

The formula is simple:

Perform 3 action each week that move you closer to your goal.

Do it for 3 months.

Set down the framework for each month and then focus on the weekly actions. This is a bite size action plan that can work on any goal you want to achieve. Think big but act small.

This is my experience with the concept.

Learning?….or Wasting Time

When can you say that you have learned enough?

This week I have spent an enormous amount of time on social media trying to get my blog seen. I have joined groups. I have shared various posts. I have commented and re-tweeted and commented and re-tweeted some more.

Yes, it drove traffic to my site. Yes, I got some nice, polite feedback, but did it create the results I was really after?

I spent the weekend pondering this. Clicks to my site is great for my ego, I mean who doesn’t like to get noticed, but clicks don’t always equate to someone actually taking the time to read what I spent hours writing.

When you join blog sharing sites, you have got to understand that you will have to kiss a lot of toads before a prince (princess) or two comes by, reads your blog and leaves a thoughtful comment that makes you feel like you have made a connection to a fellow tribe mate.

And those are the people that I am striving to connect with. Like minded folks on a similar path wanting inspiration or needing to feel validation with the topic at hand.

What I do understand is that blog sharing sites are an amazing way to get feedback, meet some fellow bloggers, learn some valuable information, get your blog out there and hopefully gain a follower or two.

But I am not interested in being seen for the sake of being seen. I am more interested in building a community, inspire others to empower themselves, and to build recognition as an authority in the wisdom and empowerment field.

Even thought I felt I had spend more time than I ever thought I would need to promoting my blog this week, I still learned some valuable lessons.

  1. Blog sharing on Facebook and Twitter is just one component of marketing a blog on the internet. What I learned is, I am too distracted by shiny objects and find I am too social for my own good and I am easily led astray by actions that do not contribute to my goals.
  2. Guest blogging on other sites may be a better option if I want to get recognized as an authority. When you guest post on another like minded site, your promoting is confined to one another’s sites and social media and as such, readers who are like minded as well. Much more manageable for me time and creative energy wise.
  3. Creating my own memes and visuals to share on my own social media sites, like Pinterest and Facebook, has worked well for me and I need to schedule dedicated time to learning more about it and develop a more unified look across the board.
  4. I got myself off tract this week with the wrong focus and now need to re-dedicate myself to the reason I started this project in the first place, my blog and it’s mission.

Not all actions are going to bring you the success you hoped for and even when they do perform well, they still may not be a good fit for you personally. Last week was definitely a steep incline on the learning curve.

This week, it is my plan to write at least two submission requests to other media sites, as well as apply some energy to learning to create better visuals.

Plus I am on class #2 of learning how to use my digital camera at my local community center. Now that is a successful action!

What actions have you taken lately that has moved you towards your dream? Leave a comment, I’d love to hear about it and be inspired.

  1. I am 6-years into blogging and IMHO blogging is a reciprocal sport. Read others posts and leave meaningful comments and people will do the same. I know of a like minded blogging group if you are interested. ..

  2. Great reminder that I needed to rethink how I’m handling my blog. All good points! Many thanks. Wonderful to “meet” you from the Women of Midlife FB group. Saw your post in the introduction thread. Best to you, Cathy Chester
