7 Simple Rituals To Celebrate Spring

It's Spring!

Happy New Year mother nature!

We made it folks and it’s time to celebrate. Even if you are still experiencing old man winter, know that spring is just around the corner. Mother nature is working hard under all that snow, waking up the earth, sending energy back into the ground to kick start the growing season once again.

Are you groaning at my enthusiasm? Have faith folks, March 20th is the tipping point. Spring and all her glory is about to kick winter in the ass with the power of life.

Until you can see the actual proof of this long awaited miracle, here are a few little rituals that you can perform to help you and mother nature along. So even if there is still snow on the ground where you live you can at least get a head start and get into the spirit of the season.

Buy a new journal

Spring is the best time to start a project, any project. Just the fact that there is more daylight, is enough to energize the body into action.

Use this new journal to jot down all the plans you want to manifest for the rest of the year. It is in this sparkly new journal that you’ll list your real resolutions for the year. You know all those thoughts, wishes and brilliant ideas that are in your head from being stuck inside with nothing much to do but dream? Getting them out of your head and written down is the first step to making them happen.

Plant a seed

Of course, now is the time to actually plant some seeds. If you garden, now is the time to get those little seed pod thingies and start your veggie and flower plants indoors so they are ready to transplant outside come May.

But that is not the seeds I am talking about here. It is also time to plant your metaphorical seeds for all those ideas that you just wrote down in that brand new journal.

It may be as simple as doing some research and gathering some information. That is why home and garden shows at the local convention centre are so popular at this time of the year. Folks are looking for new ideas and possibilities and that is exactly what you are looking for at this point too. Plant the seeds needed to germinate the bigger plans now in order for them to take root early so they can grow strong and become realities through out the coming seasons.

A self care day

My husband likes to call this doing some personal maintenance, like an oil change for your car. Spend some time on your body. Clip, trim, scrub, loofah and generally slough off winter. Think of it this way; new season, new you. Then finish it off with a little polish and a new outfit and you are now ready to step out into the world.

(Ad)venture outside

Okay, so you are now revived and ready to go physically, now it’s time to get into spring mentally. The best way to do that is to get outside: go on a day trip, get into nature, hike a trail, observe the awakening of nature. If you want to kick start your energy then there is no better way than to be part of the world around you. Move your body and get that heart of yours pumping. Breath, send fresh oxygen to the brain and allow your body to absorb the earths re-awakened energy. You will feel refreshed and alive, just as mother nature intended.

Clean your home

You might think that this should be done before you venture outside but I think that after a long winter, you have spent enough time inside. A fresh perspective is needed first before you tackle cleaning the winter den.

But now that you have that fresh new attitude, get in there and shine up the abode. There is a very good reason why folks need to do a spring cleaning. Your home has been shut up tight as a drum for 6 months, it needs a deep clean and air out. So on the first sunny, warm day that you can manage, open up the windows and doors and sweep and dust it out. Wash the windows to a sparkle and release the dust bunnies from under the beds and sofas out into the wild outdoors.

If you are so inclined, now is a great time to smudge your home with white sage as well. Smudging has been proven to clear the air of mold spores, pollen, pet dander, odors, cigarette smoke, bacteria, viruses, dust and other hazardous airborne particles. Here is a good article for further info should you want to give it a try. http://www.naturallivingideas.com/smudging/

Bring spring inside

You’ve had a drab couple of months. Not since the sparkle of Christmas has there been a festive feel to your home. So why not honour mother nature by bringing some of her early bounty into your home. Daffodils, tulips and azalea plants are filling the florist shops and grocery stores. Flowers feed the soul, so feast on a bouquet for your home. Even a twig or two of blossoms can do the trick. The point is to bring fresh life inside to enjoy the blessings of spring.

Celebrate with a feast

If you celebrate Easter, you may already have this covered but if not, create a meal that incorporates spring foods. Eggs are the most obvious choice as they traditionally represent new life. But in my part of the world early sprouting plants like chives, fiddleheads (spring ferns), watercress, and a little later but still early enough, rhubarb, are all great choices to add to the menu as well.

This celebration feast is not only a ritual meant to mark that we survived winter but as a shout out to spring as well. Yay! Let gets back to living with gusto once again.

Invite some friends and family and make it a real festive occasion.

Are you feeling a little spring fever yet? Are you sensing a bout of silliness coming on? Perhaps a sense of wanderlust? Don’t worry, you will. The excitement and surprise of springs vitality hits us all in some form or other.

So let’s dance around the Maypole and rejoice the coming abundance that mother nature is sure to bring us in the seasons to come. Let’s honor new life and show our gratitude for the turning of the wheel of life once again. And let’s get a little heated with excitement for the rebirth of nature.

Rituals are meant to help us feel connected to a greater power and the awakening of the earth once again is a pretty awesome energy to fasten ourselves to.

Happy Spring!
